HOUSTON - The University of Utah women's tennis team dropped a 5-0 decision to the University of Houston on Saturday, March 13 on the John E. Hoff courts. The loss puts the Utes at 5-6 on the season.
In singles, the Cougars took care of the Utes in a dominating fashion. At the No. 1 spot, senior Sheri Esrock fell to Miranda Foley (6-3, 6-3). Freshman Whitney Eber fared well at the No.2 and it t took opponent #87 Biljana Dimovska three sets to dispatch her (1-6, 6-3, 10-1). Freshman Cinthia Saucedo played at the No. 3 but did not finish due to rain. When the match was called Diana Martin was up (6-4, 3-3) on Saucedo. At the No. 4, freshman Jessica Watts lost (6-2, 6-1) to Yolandi Terblanche and sophomore Jenessa Jackson lost to Kami Miller (6-3, 6-0) at the No. 5. Senior Rachel Alder played at the No. 6 but came up short against Karine Urbin (6-3, 6-1).
No doubles matches were played due to a rain cancellation. Utah hits the courts next on Wednesday, March 17 against Nebraska in Newport Beach, Calif. at 11:00 a.m.
