QUOTING HEAD COACH Lisa Archer:
"This was probably the best showing our team has had at the BYU Invitational," said Archer. "We had several winners and several personal records. Amanda Feigt continues to be impressive in her events."
LAST MEET:
The University of Utah outdoor track and field teams finished competition for the Brigham Young Invitational on Friday, April 2. Held at the BYU Track and Field Complex, the meet featured athletes from Utah, Brigham Young, Utah Valley State College, Weber State, Southern Utah and Utah State.
Leading the way for the women were Amanda Feigt, Jen Jackman, Tracy Hamblin and Katie Decker who all notched first-place finishes in their respective events. Feigt won the 400-meter dash (56.39), the triple jump (11.93m), and finished third in the long jump with 5.87 meters. She was also the top placing attached athlete in the long jump. Jackman took the 400 meter-hurdles with 1:00.26 and finished fifth (14.42) in the 100m-hurdles. Hamblin won the pole vault, jumping 3.75m, and Decker won the high jump with 1.68m.
The women's team also got strong performances from Vanessa Mortensen, Elise Greenwood and Trisha Wagner. Mortensen finished second in the hammer (56.38), Greenwood took third in the 1,500m (4:47.54) and Wagner finished second in the pole vault (3.60m).
On the men's side, veterans Delfino Arevalo and Nephi Tyler led the way. Arevalo finished second (15:25.97) in the 5,000m behind former Ute Teren Jameson, but was the first collegiate finisher. Tyler finished fifth (1:51.86) in the 800m.
UTES ON THE RUN:
Jen Jackman set a NCAA regional qualifying mark at the BYU Cougar Invitational. Jackman won the 400 hurdles with 1:00.26, a new personal record. The junior, who has been Utah's best hurdler the past two seasons, moved into second on the Utah all-time list.
Senior Natasha Eldridge qualified for the NCAA West Regional in the hammer throw. Eldridge threw the hammer 53.00m, which was a personal record and moves her to fourth on the Utah all-time list.
MIGHTY FROSH:
Amanda Feigt had another outstanding meet last weekend dabbling in several different events. Feigt won the 400m (56.39), the triple jump (11.93m) and finished third in the long jump (5.87m).
Feigt set an NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the long jump (6.02m) earlier this year. She currently ranks second in the conference for the long jump and third in the triple jump.
FROM THE TRAINER'S TABLE:
Senior Tracy Hamblin suffered a foot injury during her last jump at the BYU Invitational. Hamblin is likely to miss the remainder of the regular season, but is listed as hopeful for the conference championships in May.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
The Utes will split up competition sites next weekend. Utah will compete in the Mt. SAC Games, in Walnut, Calif., and in the Utah State Invitational in Logan, Utah. Both meets will take place on Saturday, April 17.
