SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Utah women's tennis team downed the University of Wyoming 4-2 in the backdraw round of the MWC Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
Utah picked up two doubles wins to take an early one point lead. At the No.1, Sheri Esrock and Whitney Eber teamed up to defeat Yuliani Santi and Amy Senko (8-2). The Ute duo of Cinthia Saucedo and Jessica Watts held on to a close (9-8(5)) over Patricia Chien and Karolina Rowinski at the No. 2.
In the singles, Esrock claimed another victory with a (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) win over Patricia Chien at the No. 1. Jessica Watts brought in a point by defeating Amy Senko (6-1, 6-2) at the No. 5. Jenessa Jackson was also victorious against Andrea House (1-6, 6-3, 6-3) at the No. 6.
Up next, Utah will take on the winner of the fifth-seeded Colorado State/eigth-seeded Air Force match for fifth-place at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Barnes Center.
