THIS WEEK:
The Utah track and field team will compete in the Wilson Motor Qualifier in Logan, Utah, on Thursday, May 6. The meet is the last chance for Utah athletes to set team-qualifying marks in order to make the conference squad which will compete at the conference championships next week.

QUOTING HEAD COACH Lisa Archer:
"The meet this Thursday will serve as a tune-up for those who have already qualified for the conference championships. It will also be a chance for those on the borderline to hopefully qualify for the squad.
"We had another great meet last weekend, which is proof that we are continually progressing as a team and individually."
UTES IN THE RANKINGS:
Utah has set a new record this season with 11 NCAA regional qualifiers and 12 NCAA regional qualifying marks. Of those 12 marks, eight rank in the top 50 for the nation. Below is a list of the rankings.

LAST WEEK:
Utah competed at the BYU Wells Fargo Invitational, held at the BYU Track and Field Complex on April 30 and May 1. Leading the way for the women were Aubry Startin, Vanessa Mortensen and Nellie Hammons who all notched first-place finishes in their respective events. Startin won the high jump, posting an NCAA regional qualifying mark of 5' 8". Mortensen won the hammer with a distance of 58.98 meters. Her mark, which is a new school record, improves her overall ranking in the region. Hammons took gold in the 800m (2:11.65) and finished third in the 400m (56.00).
Jen Jackman finished second in the 400m-hurdles with 14.77. Her time is a new school record and helps her regional ranking.
On the men's side, Dustin Cutrer, and Nephi Tyler led the way. Cutrer won the javelin with 58.56m, a new personal record. Tyler won the 1,500 with an NCAA regional qualifying time of 3:49.88.
UTES ON THE RUN:
Katie Decker and Aubry Startin look to be a strong one-two punch for Utah in the high jump. Decker, an indoor All-American, finished just behind Startin at the BYU Wells Fargo Invitational last weekend. Both are tied for third in the league rankings with 5' 8", which is an NCAA regional qualifying mark.
Utah's throwers have posted strong performances this season. Vanessa Mortensen set a new school record in the hammer throw last weekend in Provo, Utah, with a 58.98-meter heave. The weekend before, Becky Riddle broke the school record in the discus (45.79) at the Oregon Invitational.
Nellie Hammons and Nephi Tyler have been Utah's best runners in the middle-distance events. Hammons took gold last weekend in the 800-meter run, while Tyler won the 1,500 meters. Both have set regional qualifying times in their respective events.
UP NEXT:
Utah travels to Las Vegas, Nev., for the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships. The championships kick off May 12 with the men's and women's heptathlon and continue through to Saturday, May 15.
