OGDEN - The University of Utah women's volleyball team shirked off a game-one loss to steal the 3-1 victory over Weber State in a non-conference tilt here this evening.
Game scores were 27-30, 30-18, 30-25 and 30-28. Utah ups its overall mark to 9-2 for the season while Weber State falls to 2-12.
"I'm happy with the win," head coach Beth Launiere said. "We did a lot of good things out there tonight. Our block wasn't effective because of their off-speed shots. But, I thought we adjusted well to it. I'm glad we got the win."
It was the sixth straight win for the Utes.
A trio of utes led the attack with Lyndsey Henderson's 17 kills on .414 hitting (17-5-29). Katrena Ellett tagged on another 12 kills while Emillie Toone chalked up 10.
Kelsie Kartchner had a season-high 37 assists and tied her season best with three service aces in the winning effort. Ellett led the way with three blocks while Connie Dangerfield had a team-high 16 digs.
Utah out hit the home team in the final three games to capture the victory. Utah hit .189 in that span, to WSU's .096, in staging the come-from-behind win. The Utes had to ward off a pesky Wildcat squad that erased a late six-point deficit in game four to tie it at 28. But, Utah regrouped to tally the final two points, tallying the win on Henderson's match-ending kill.
The Utes couldn't combat the swift-hitting Wildcats in the first frame. WSU dealt Utah only its second game-one loss of the season by hitting .412 (18-4-34) to Utah's .297 (19-8-37). The Wildcats erased an early four-point deficit and never trailed after gaining the 7-6 advantage.
The Utes will complete their four-match road swing with two matches this weekend. Utah plays at Air Force on Friday, Oct. 1, and at New Mexico on Saturday, Oct. 2. Both matches start at 7 p.m.
