SALT LAKE CITY - Freshman phenom Airial Salvo won her second Mountain West Conference Player of the Week award after helping the University of Utah volleyball team down No. 12-ranked Brigham Young last weekend. She shares this week's honor with Andrea Seele who helped Wyoming to a pair of league victories.
Salvo led the Utes in the three-game sweep of BYU with 15 kills on .371 hitting. She was just shy of a double-double with nine digs and also tallied three total blocks and three assists. Not only did the outside hitter lead the team's offense, but she also knocked down the game-winning kills in each of the second and third games, lifting the Utes past the undefeated Cougars and snapping their 20-match winning streak. The win was also critical in the standings, giving Utah sole possession of second place in the conference.
The Farmington, Utah native also won the Player of the Week back in the first week of the year.
Salvo and the Utes return to action this Friday and Saturday when they host Colorado State and Wyoming. It is the last two home matches of the year. Both are at Crimson Court and will start at 7 p.m.
