Recap | Final Stats | Notes
Utah Head Coach Ray Giacoletti
On the game in general - "I'm embarrassed for the effort we put forth. It's not acceptable, it's not what this program represents and it is inexcusable. We had a week to prepare. Either I didn't do a good job getting us prepared, but our game plan, defensively, worked the first half as far as getting them off kilter with their offense, but we turned the ball over 15 times and the second half we didn't compete."
On Arizona's press affecting Utah's offense - "It disrupts it, but we had five days to try and prepare for it and get people in the right spots, and be strong with the basketball and pass it ahead. It's not different than anything else. Yeah, it's quick, but we had five days to prepare"
On how the Utah players played - "Scared, there is no other word. Scared. Scared to death. You don't see things coming. We kinda got better as it went along this week, and we talked about the kind of effort we can give and be mentally tough. When you [go] to bed tonight and be honest with yourself, and I think there is one guy that can be honest and say he gave a great effort, and that's Bryant Markson. Everyone else is fooling themselves if they thought they gave a great effort; and again, that is including myself and my staff."
Arizona Guard Hassan Adams
"The team looked at me for leadership, so every time I stepped onto the court they knew I was ready. A big part of this game was the pressure we put on Utah. We kept up the pressure and just played with a pass, pass, pass, attack, and it worked. We got a lot of shots in because of that strategy. Even during the second half, we stayed aggressive and stayed on them to take them out of their comfort [zone]."
Arizona Head Coach Lute Olson
"This was our best all around game. Our shot selection was much better during the second half than at the beginning of the night. Also working was our defense. This is our best defensive team. The key to the game was our defense with all of our steals. It frustrated Utah because they were having a hard time keeping as patient as they stayed."
