SALT LAKE CITY -- University of Utah forward Kim Smith was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week Monday, marking her second such honor this season.
Smith, a 6-1 senior from Mission, B.C., led Utah to a 72-67 win over Eastern Michigan with 29 points. The 29 points were a season-high and also tied her for the most points in a game this season in the MWC. Smith also pulled down six boards, including four offensive rebounds. The senior played all 40 minutes without a turnover, while dishing out one assist and recording one steal.
She shot 65 percent from the field (11-for-17) and was 4-for-9 (.444) from beyond the arc in the victory over Eastern Michigan.
Smith, the three-time MWC Player of the Year, has now been named MWC Player of the Week five times during her four years with Utah.
Utah is back in action again Friday, when the Utes host in-state rival Southern Utah at the Huntsman Center. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
