SALT LAKE CITY - Outside hitters Shelly Sommerfeldt and Airial Salvo continue to garner accolades from the 2005 volleyball season, earning all-region honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association this week.
Sommerfeldt was named to the AVCA all-West Region team while Salvo was West Region Freshman of the Year in addition to winning honorable mention all-region.
The regional nod makes Sommerfeldt eligible for All-America consideration, while Salvo is in the running for National Freshman of the Year.
The outside hitter duo combined to form one of the best offensive duos in the Mountain West Conference.
Sommerfeldt wrapped up her senior campaign winning her third all-conference award and began the postseason winning all-MWC Tournament and Tournament MVP accolades.
