COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah juniors Jonathan Larsen and Sterling Richards have been named Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, garnering their fourth career weekly award apiece.
Larsen, a Stockton, Calif., product, had two individual victories, and helped the Utah 400-yard medley relay team to a first-place finish in a conference dual meet win over BYU, helping the Ute men claim a share of their first MWC regular-season title since the inception of the MWC. Larsen posted times of 20.97 in the 50-yard freestyle (ninth fastest time in the MWC this season) and 45.42 in the 100-yard freestyle (fourth fastest in the conference this season), while helping the 400 medley relay team to a time of 3:19.65. He is undefeated in the 50 free and only has one loss in the 100 free this year.
Richards, from Woods Cross, Utah, swept both diving events vs. BYU. He turned in scores of 345.44 in the 1-meter and 341.02 in the 3-meter. His score in the 1-meter dive is tops in the MWC this season.
Up next, the Utes travel to Oklahoma City, Okla., to compete in the MWC Championships Feb. 23-26.
