OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - UNLV leads the men's field with 571 points and five-time defending conference champion BYU leads the women with 477 points after day three at the Mountain West Conference Swimming & Diving Championships at Oklahoma City Community College.
BYU trails the Rebels in men's action with 496 points, followed by Wyoming (390), Utah (379) and Air Force (270). The Rebels hold the No. 2 spot in the women's events with 463.50 points, followed by Utah (407), Colorado State (345), Wyoming (289), New Mexico (251), Air Force (142.50) and San Diego State (119).
For the Utes, sophomore Alison McInturff set a new Utah school record in the women's 200 free with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:48.42 to claim the MWC event title. The previous Ute school record was 1:49.69, set by Neringa Statkeviciute in 2002. Marta Stepanczuk finished fourth in the event with a time of 1:52.20.
Junior Sterling Richards successfully defended his 3-meter diving title with a Utah school record score of 579.95. Damien Brown finished third in the event with a total of 503.75 points.
In the 400 IM, senior Cody Rempfer finished fourth with a time of 3:54.93, while freshman Michelle Blair and junior Meghan Demchuk finished third and fourth respectively in the 100 fly. Blair posted a time of 55.89, while Demchuk finished with a time of 56.58.
In the 200 free, senior Matan Ratz finished second behind Wyoming's Carl Marais after finishing with a time of 1:38.79, which is a NCAA provisional qualifying time. Senior Evan Castro finished third in the 100 breast, with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 54.96.
The men's 400 medley relay team also set an NCAA provisional qualifying time, as well as a new Utah school record of 3:15.46 finishing second behind UNLV.
The MWC Swimming & Diving Championships conclude Saturday, Feb. 26, following the 6 p.m. finals events and the announcement of the individual and team awards.
