Recap | Final Stats | Notes
Utah Head Coach Ray Giacoletti
"Each one of these seasons is a journey. You have good times, tough times. Then you get to a point in the road where you can do something like that and its really special. At least in my 19 years of basketball, it doesn't happen enough. So their hard work was rewarded today and it's so nice they could do it in front of a packed house, and people have been so gracious to this team in supporting them. Hopefully it was a fun day for everybody."
"This (losing last week) was kind of one of those stumbling blocks in the road; how are you gonna react after that. We had two good days of practice. It wasn't going to be an effort factor and our effort was really good. They happened to just get off and hit some tough shots early, to their credit. We panicked a little bit on the offensive end of the floor."
"In the second half we did a much better job. We got the two man game away from Andrew and got things opened up for Hawk."
Utah Forward Justin Hawkins
"It's always good to get it done (on dunking). It's gets a lot of energy for the team, it gets the crowd into it and tilts the attitude and spirits out of the other team."
"They were kind of miss-communicating on defense and I was rolling and I was open a lot."
Utah Center Andrew Bogut
"We just got off to a slow start. They made some tough shots early. We need to do some things to get off to a better start."
BYU Head Coach Steve Cleveland
"This was obviously a very competitive game. There was no question our guys gave a great effort and we knew they were going to come out with a great effort as well. We did a lot of good things. There were a few execution issues in the second half off of ball screens, which hurt us late in the game."
"We tried to guard (Andrew) Bogut, but he shot a lot of free throws in the first half and I'm sure he had big numbers. I thought we did a better job in the second half with not fouling him and Chris (Miles) did a good job defensively. Our aggression level was good and we competed, but we just weren't good enough."
"Today's effort is nothing you as a coach can walk in and get upset about. We need to keep believing in ourselves and keep believing in what we are doing and see what we can do in the (Mountain West Conference) tournament."
"I wasn't happy with the foul calls in the first half. This was a very physical game and I thought they were calling a lot of touch fouls. Bogut is going to create foul situations because he is a pretty dominant offensive player. There were a lot of little grab fouls that were called."
"I feel really good about this team. We are going to continue to compete and we are going to be better next year. Seven years ago not a lot of people believed in us and we turned it around. Maybe something special will happen at the end of the season and maybe in won't, but this team isn't going away. We will be back and better next season. We have a nucleus of great guys and some sitting out that will add to that. We will be back at it next year."
