OGDEN, Utah - The University of Utah Indoor Track and field team finished competition for the Weber State Wildcat Invitational on Saturday, April 9. Held at Stewart Stadium, the meet featured athletes from Utah, Weber State, Idaho State and Montana State. Utah had another strong meet, taking gold in four events.
The women's squad claimed three victories. Junior Vanessa Mortensen won the hammer throw for the second straight meet, throwing 57.45m. Last week, Mortensen set a new school record, Danish national record and personal record at the Cougar Invitational by throwing an impressive 60.50m.
Sophomore sensation, Amanda Feigt won the long jump with a distance of 5.61m. Feigt also competed in several other events, finishing seventh in the 100m-hurdles (15.11) and 200m (26.61), 10th in the high jump (1.52m), and 15th in the javelin (25.66m). Junior AJ Roby claimed the women's third victory by throwing 42.98m in the discus. Roby won the gold in the discus, last week, with a 43.67m.
Senior Candice Workman-Ekberg, sophomore Jennifer Cutrer and sophomore Elise Greenwood-Bahr also had strong performances for the women's squad. Workman-Ekberg finished second in the shot put (14.04), Greenwood-Bahr finished second in the 1,500m (4:57.30) and Cutrer finished third in the 100m-hurldes (14.63).
The men's team claimed Utah's final victory. Senior Delfino Arevalo won the 5,000m with an impressive 14:59.41 finish. Senior Nephi Tyler and sophomore Dustin Cutrer also had a strong meet. Tyler finished second in the 800m with 1:53.21, and Cutrer finished fifth in the javelin with 51.19m.
