SALT LAKE CITY - The 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 baseball team was announced Thursday. University of Utah third baseman Jay Brossman was named to the second team.

Brossman is a sophomore from Pullman, Wash. He currently leads the Utes with a .386 batting average. Brossman is also tops on the team in home runs (7) and slugging percentage (.598). His batting average is good enough to be ranked No. 5 in the Mountain West Conference. Brossman's 17 doubles is tied for the third best mark in the league.

In the classroom, Brossman holds a 3.60 grade-point average. He has yet to declare a major.

Brossman was a first-team All-Mountain West Conference selection in 2004. He was also a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete as a freshman last season.
