Scouting UNLV
UNLV is 27-26 overall, but is 20-7 in Mountain West Conference play. The Rebels are in first place in the conference, with a one-game lead over BYU heading into the final weekend of regular-season action.
While the Rebels are just one game above .500, they faced a very ambitious schedule early in the season. UNLV played eight games against teams currently in the national rankings during the non-conference season. The Rebels were 2-6 in those games.
UNLV is led at the plate by J.C. Sibley, who is batting .373 with two homers and 18 RBIs. The Rebels' top hurler is Kyle Tabeek, who has compiled a 4-1 record with five saves and a 3.34 ERA.
Utah Update
Utah is 18-31 overall and 10-17 in the Mountain West Conference. The Utes have lost seven of their last eight outings and are coming off an 8-2 loss at UVSC and a weekend in which they dropped two of three to Air Force.
The Utes are averaging just 5.5 runs, while allowing 9.5 per contest during those seven losses.
Utah is led at the plate by Jay Brossman. The senior transfer from Texas Tech is batting .377 with five homers and a team-leading 52 RBIs.
Josh Cooper is the top pitcher with a 3.65 ERA and a 3-0 record.
