SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Mountain West Conference announced its 2005 baseball all-conference team and postseason awards today as selected by the league's head coaches. BYU third baseman Brandon Taylor earned Player of the Year honors, while San Diego State righthander Bruce Billings was named Pitcher of the Year and Air Force's Jon Polston earned the Sportsmanship Award. UNLV skipper Buddy Gouldsmith was selected as Coach of the Year.

Regular-season champion UNLV and San Diego State headlined this year's all-conference squad with seven selections each. BYU had five student-athletes on the all-conference team, while New Mexico and Utah had four and three honorees, respectively. This year's team was made up of seven seniors, 10 juniors, seven sophomores and two freshmen.
Utah's three representatives were third baseman Jay Brossman (Soph., Pullman, Wash.), second baseman Doug Beck (Sr., Denver, Colo.) and pitcher Josh Cooper (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.).
Utah is playing host to the Mountain West Conference Tournament, beginning Wednesday at Franklin Covey Field. The Utes, who are seeded No. 5, will face the No. 4-seeded New Mexico Lobos at 3 p.m.
