Ute Natatorium Gets a Facelift

SALT LAKE CITY - The Mountain West Conference championship banners won't be the only new items inside the University of Utah's Ute Natatorium come this fall.
The Utah swimming and diving teams will return to a renovated version of their home with a brand new diving well and locker rooms.
"I am truly grateful for the administration's support on these projects," remarked head coach Michael Litzinger. "They are needed, not only from a facilities point, but they will also give our championship program a championship feel."
The renovations include an $800,000 improvement to the diving well. With that comes an increased water depth up to 16 feet and a new gutter system that brings the water level up to the deck. There will also be concrete platforms for both the one- and three-meter boards. The three-meter board will add to the home-team atmosphere, being poured in the shape of the Block U. A five-meter platform will be installed as well and completed at a later date.
In addition to the diving well, the locker rooms will also get a $100,000 facelift. Originally built in 1968, the men's locker room will be separated into areas for both the men's and women's teams. It will feature clubhouse-sized lockers and an expanded team meeting lounge.
