THIS WEEK:
The University of Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams wraps up the regular season when they travel to Provo, Utah, to take on the Cougars Thursday, Feb. 2, at 6 p.m. The women's team looks to finish their second undefeated conference dual-meet season in as many years and claim their second straight outright MWC regular season title.
The women hold an 8-1 overall record, 7-0 MWC, while the men sit at 4-2 overall, 2-2 MWC. The women are currently first in the conference standings, while the men are tied for third with Air Force.
QUOTING HEAD COACH Michael Litzinger:
"This is our version of rivalry week. Over the last six years that I've been at Utah, the BYU-Utah meet has truly become meaningful for both teams. We always want to swim well against our rivals, but in reality our focus is on the conference championships at the end of February."
WYOMING/AIR FORCE RECAP:
The University of Utah men's swimming and diving teams beat Wyoming 126-117, while the women defeated the Cowgirls 146-96. The men won seven of the 14 events, while the women won nine of the 14 events. The women also set three Corbett Pool records in the 200 free, 200 back and 400 medley relay.
On Saturday, the women's swimming and diving teams clinched at least a share of the MWC regular-season title for the third straight year after beating Air Force 167-123. The women won 11 of the 17 events overall. The men's meet came down to the last event with Utah needing to finish first and second in the 200 free, but the Utes fell short, losing 154.5-145.5.
SCOUTING BYU:
The BYU men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Wyoming Saturday to wrap up a weekend of dual road meets and wins after beating Air Force Thursday at the Cadet Natatorium. The No. 20 men are now 9-1 on the season, 4-0 MWC and have earned at least a share of the MWC regular season title. The women's team holds a 6-1 conference record and could earn a share of the regular season title with a win over the Utes.
