SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team ended day three of the Wilson ITA Central Region Tournament on Friday with junior Elizabeth Ferris advancing into the Quarterfinals.
Ferris, a native of Anaheim, Calif., began play on Friday in the Round of 32 against Martina Sedivec of Colorado. The two battle through two sets, ending in Ferris' victory 6-3, 6-2. Moving into the Round of 16, the Ute took on another player from Colorado, Franzi Jendrian. Ferris took the first set 6-1. In the second set, Jendrian fought hard, but not hard enough. The Ute took the set and match at 6-1, 6-4 advancing her into the Quarterfinals. She will battle with Jenny Miccoli of BYU at 9:00 a.m. at Eccles Tennis Center on Saturday.
In the back draw for singles, Utah's Karine Bourdages and Cinthia Saucedo continue play. Bourdages had a 6-2, 6-4 win over Gabi Venditto of Weber State in the Round of 32. She will face Kaja Smole of Denver on Saturday. Saucedo played a three set battle in the Round of 32 against Danni Paulson of Montana. Saucedo will advance after her 6-3, 4-6, 1-0(3) over Paulson. On Saturday in the Round of 16, the Ute will face Tiffany Coll of Boise State.
