Utes Host Fresno State in Home Opener
Coming off a 57-45 loss to Gonzaga Friday night, the University of Utah women's basketball team will play its home opener Monday night against Fresno State.
The Utes and Bulldogs have met 13 times previously, with Utah holding an 11-2 advantage in the series.
Utah will be looking to avoid going 0-2 to start the season for the first time since the 1993-94 season. The Utes were 12-14 that year, which marked the only sub-.500 season Elaine Elliott has ever had as the Utah head coach.
Monday's game will mark the season-opener for Fresno State. The Bulldogs are coming off an 80-54 exhibition victory over the Australian Roos back on Tuesday.
Fresno State was 24-8 last season and advanced to the second round of the WNIT.
The Matchup
Utah and Fresno State have met 13 previous times on the hardwood, with the Utes taking 11 of those matchups.
This is the first meeting between the Utes and Bulldogs since November of 2003, when Utah took part in a tournament in Fresno.
Fresno State hasn't had a victory in the series since 1994. Utah won the first matchup, 94-61 in 1993. The Bulldogs won the next two and Utah has won the last 10.
Fresno State has three starters returning. However, their two starters lost (Amy Parrish and Mirenda Swearengin) were both All-Western Athletic Conference honorees. Swearingen was the WAC Player of the Year.
