The Runnin' Utes head to Puerto Rico for the San Juan Shootout next Tuesday through Thursday. Utah opens its tournament schedule against Central Florida on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. (AST)/Noon (MST).
QUICKLY ON UTAH
The Runnin' Utes (3-5) take a week off for semester exams before hosting the Cal Poly Mustangs (4-3) on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. (MST) at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Utah is 3-2 at home this season. The game will be broadcast on Sports Radio 700 The Zone.
Utah has followed up its three-game winning streak with back-to-back losses on the road. The Utes lost 60-57 at Utah State last Wednesday night and fell 85-84 in overtime at Rhode Island last Saturday.
Sophomore center Luke Nevill (7-1, 265) is the Utes' leading scorer (18.6 ppg) and rebounder (9.1 rpg). He is shooting 70.2 percent from the field, and has 15 assists and a team-best seven blocked shots. Junior guard Johnnie Bryant (6-0, 180) is second on the team in scoring (16.1 ppg) and has connected on 44.6 percent (25-for-56) of his 3-point attempts. Bryant also leads the Utes in assists (2.8 apg). Sophomore forward Shaun Green (6-8, 208) is third on the team in scoring (13.6 ppg) and second in rebounding (6.3 rpg). He is shooting 64.4 percent from the field and 64.9 percent (24-for-37) from 3-point range. Green also leads the Utes in steals (12) and is second in blocked shots (5).
In the NCAA statistical rankings released on Dec. 11, Utah ranked fourth in 3-point percentage (45.6), 11th in field goal percentage (51.5), 63rd in 3-pointers made per game (7.75) and 82nd in free throw percentage (71.6). Green ranked first in the nation in three-point percentage (64.9) and Nevill was fourth in field goal percentage (70.2).

? Four of Utah's five losses have come by a combined eight points.
? The Utes have shot at least 50 percent from 3-point range five times and at least 50 percent from the field five times in eight games this season.

SCOUTING CAL POLY
The Mustangs are 4-3 overall and 0-2 on the road this season. Cal Poly hasn't played since losing at San Jose State, 80-63, on Dec. 4. Before then the Mustangs won three in a row at home. They defeated Cal State Stanislaus, 91-72, on Nov. 20, Saint Mary's College, 72-59, on Nov. 26 and Occidental, 81-62, on Nov. 29.
Junior guard Dawin Whiten (6-3, 205) leads Cal Poly in scoring (13.1 ppg) and assists 3.2 apg). Whiten is shooting 38.1 percent (16-for-42) from 3-point range and 83.3 percent from the free throw line, both team-best marks. Senior guard/forward Derek Stockapler (6-5, 220) is second in scoring (11.4 ppg). Junior forward Dreshawn Vance (6-8, 200) is third in scoring (9.1 ppg) and second in rebounding (6.1 rpg). Sophomore forward Titus Shelton (6-7, 240) leads the Mustangs in rebounding (6.6 rpg) and blocked shots (10).

MUSTANG HEAD COACH KEVIN BROMLEY
Kevin Bromley is in his seventh season as head coach of the Mustangs with a 55-79 record. Bromley served six years as the associate head coach and half of the 2000-01 season as the interim head coach before taking over as the head coach of the Mustangs on a full-time basis for the 2001-02 season.
Bromley posted the school's first back-to-back winning seasons at the Division I level in 2001-02 and `02-03. After the Mustangs went 15-12 in 2001-02, he guided Cal Poly to a 16-14 mark and a fourth-place finish (10-8) in the Big West in 2002-03. Bromley also led the Mustangs to the 2003 Big West Conference Tournament Championship game, falling short of a NCAA Tournament appearance by three points. Cal Poly went 10-19 overall and 7-7 to place fourth in the Big West Conference last season.
UTAH VS. CAL POLY SERIES NOTES
? Utah and Cal Poly meet for the second time on Saturday afternoon. The Runnin' Utes took the first meeting between the two schools 92-76 on Dec. 22, in San Louis Obispo, Calif.
? Ray Giacoletti is 1-2 all-time against Cal Poly, including a 1-0 while at Utah.

TAKE NOTICE OF NEVILL

? The Perth, Australia, native has had double-doubles in four of the last six games to bring his career total to eight.
? Against Rhode Island on Dec. 9, Nevill had a season-high 25 points (10-14 FG, 5-8 FT) and a career-high 16 rebounds (nine offensive) in 38 minutes. It was his third 20-point game of the season and the fifth of his career.
