Recap | Final Stats | Notes
Utah Head Coach Ray Giacoletti:
"I think our first group did a good job with defense. I think we have an understanding of how hard we have to play every possession, communication. When you hold somebody to 20 points at the half, that's the numbers we are looking for. It's actually 10 below what our goals are, but in the second half we gave up 38 points. It was nice not to sweat out the last minutes. I think our first group is starting to understand what we need to do and we are just trying to continue to bring along the new freshmen off of that bench. I think that Misha (Radojevic) did a good job off of the bench. Obviously, Ricky Johns and Luka Drca did a solid job."
Utah Center Luke Nevill:
"We played the whole week pretty much focusing on defense. In the first two practices back from Rhode Island we played nothing but defense, so that really helped. We just emphasized on playing help defense rather than just thinking about your own man. Offensively I struggled a bit at first because I missed a few hook shots that usually go in, but I just kept pushing at it. After that, I got some momentum and we just kept playing."
Utah Forward Shaun Green:
"My teammates know how to finish up; they did it all. I had the easy part. They got it to me when I was open, so all I had to do was catch and shoot. I didn't have to put the ball on the court at all. We played good defense in the first half, but we kind of let down a bit in the second. We weren't quite as happy with our defense second half, but we are getting there, so we'll see what happens going into Puerto Rico."
Cal Poly Head Coach Kevin Bromley:
"I give a lot of credit to Utah. Their big, Nevill, is big, and he's able to plug up the lane. In the first half we went on a seven-minute stretch where we just couldn't score the basketball and a lot of that is a credit to him and Utah's defense. They plugged up the lane so there was no where to drive and they clamped on to our shooters a little bit. The second half, I'm glad how we responded. Obviously, I though we got a little more aggressive, we got a couple things in transition and it broke open and we were able to knock some shots down. Utah came out aggressive in the first half. It was a closer basketball game in the second half but the game was won and lost in the last seven or eight minutes of the first half when they went up by 20."
"Utah is a tough place to play, and Ray is doing a great job. They have a great squad. They shot the ball, and their role players are doing well playing off the big fella. And if they keep playing solid defense I think they will do very well in the league."
