ALBUQUERQUE- The second day of the Mountain West Conference Championships wrapped up on Friday, and the Utes are in fourth place overall. Many women competed well for the team.
We had an extraordinary day of competition," remarked head coach Kyle Kepler. "I couldn't be more pleased with the effort our kids gave. The day started off really well, and our kids gave a fabulous effort."
Amanda Feigt placed third in the long jump (19-02.50) after finishing second in the pentathlon Thursday. Feigt also obtained a personal best in the 60m hurdles (8.87) finishing 10th. Jennifer Cutrer also brought home a personal best in the 60m hurdles (8.90) finishing 11th. Haley McAllister placed 5th in the long jump, with a personal best in the preliminaries (18-5.00) and the finals (18-9.00). Vanessa Mortensen finished fourth in the weight throw with a personal best throw of 58-11.50. Kellie Anderson finished 6th in the 5,000m with a personal best time of 17:42 after the altitude adjustment. Ashley Patterson obtained a personal best in the preliminaries of the 400m (10th).
Other girls who stepped up for the team are Susan Atwater, who placed 9th in the pole vault (12-00.75), and Janett Ern who was 7th in the preliminaries of the 800m (2:19.09), the final race will be held tomorrow.
"The team is doing a super job in the biggest meet of the year," said coach Kepler. "I'm excited with the effort the women have given, and look forward to more. We have one day left, and are going to go out and try to do the same thing tomorrow."
The last day of competition wraps up on Saturday, February 25th.
