OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Sterling Richards finished second in the 3-meter diving event at the NCAA Zone E Diving Regional at the Aquatic Center at Oklahoma City Community College. Kelsey Patterson finished seventh in the women's 1-meter event.
Richards tallied 746.65 points in the 3-meter, while Joona Puhakka of Arizona State finished first with 879.95 points. After finishing second, Richards has qualified himself for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships and will be the first Ute male diver to compete at the event.
Andrew Jones finished 16th with 514.25 points. Jacob Jewett failed to make the finals, finishing 19th in the preliminary round with 235.90 points. Damien Brown finished 21st in the preliminary round with 191.00 points.
Patterson scored 536.90 points in the 1-meter to finish seventh Blythe Hartley of USC won the event with 670.10 points. Anna Braszkiwiecz failed to make the finals, after placing 31st in the preliminary round with 201.20 points.
Day two of the three-day event begins tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. The women will take part in the 3-meter finals and the men in the 1-meter finals.
