SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah track and field team wrapped up competition today. The team competed at two meets, the Oregon Invitational and the Mark Faldmo Invitational. Among the highlights, AJ Roby brought home a regional qualifying mark in the discus.
"I am very pleased with this weekends' meets," said head coach Kyle Kepler. "I think we are starting to get into a good rhythm."
At the Oregon Invitational, AJ Roby took first in the discus with a regional qualifying mark of 157-10. Roby also placed third in the shot put (44-08.25). Vanessa Mortensen placed fourth in the hammer throw (199-07). Mortensen's mark thos week improved her previous regional qualifying mark.
At the Mark Faldmo Invitational, Hailey McAllister took first in the 200m with a time of 25.41. Her time ranks on Utah's all-time top-ten list. Becky Riddle won the shot put (41-10.75), while Chastity Toilolo placed third (39-04.5). Riddle also placed third in the discus (124-2). Amanda Feigt placed second in the 400m hurdles with a regional qualifying time of 1:00.68. In addition, she won the long jump with a mark of 19-3.5. Also in the long jump, Hailey McAllister placed third with a mark of 18-5.75.
Other highlights include Nikki Mancinelli tying for second in the high jump (5-04.50). In the Pole Vault, Mandie Rowell and Susan Atwater tied for third with a mark of 11-06.25. Jennifer Cutrer placed third in the 100m hurdles (14:56) and Mandie Rowell took second in the triple jump (35-08.50).
"We have a lot of events that are going very well and are headed in the right direction," continued coach Kepler. "Even in the events where we aren't scoring big right now, there is a lot of potential and good things are happening. The women are doing things the right way and it's only a matter of time before we get the events where we really want."
Next week, the team splits up for the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa and the Clarence Robison Invitational in Provo, Utah. Both meets will be held Friday and Saturday, April 28-29.
