PROVO, Utah - The track and field postseason is underway as the University of Utah women's track and field team wrapped up the first of two days at the NCAA Regional Meet here at Robison Track this afternoon.
Amanda Feigt led the way today, qualifying for the finals in the 400m hurdles. She finished fifth in the prelims today, clocking it in a personal-best 59.94. The finals will be run on Saturday afternoon at 3:20 p.m.
"I'm pleased with our effort after day one at the regional meet," head coach Kyle Kepler said. "Amanda Feigt had a great race in the 400m hurdles and we look forward to another good effort from her tomorrow.
"We're excited to see Vanessa Mortensen, AJ Roby and Susan Atwater compete tomorrow but I'm happy with how we got it started this afternoon. I thought today was a success as our student-athletes continue to perform at a very high level."
Another two of the five Utah athletes that qualified also competed today. AJ Roby finished 13th in the shot put with a toss of 46-7 ½ while Feigt finished 11th in the long jump (19-6 ¼).
The top five in each event automatically qualify for the NCAA Championship Meet in Sacramento, Calif., while the next best seven times or distances are put in an at-large pool. The at-large pool is selected based on performances from throughout the season.
The regional meet continues on Saturday with Vanessa Mortensen competing in the day's first event, the hammer throw (10 a.m.). Susan Atwater also competes in the pole vault (2 p.m.) on Saturday while Roby will throw in the discus (3 p.m.).
