SALT LAKE CITY - Three University of Utah track and field athletes will return to school on the heels of successful performances at the Canadian National Meets.
Leading the way was incoming freshman Whitney Wellington as she qualified for the World Junior Championships slated for Beijing Aug. 15-20. Wellington battled rain and a head wind to finish second in the 100m (12.02) at the Canadian Junior National Championships.
Another incoming freshman, Liza Whitehead, ran in the Canadian National Championships. She clocked a personal best 11.98 in the qualifying round of the 100m and finished sixth in the finals with a time of 11.99.
Also competing at the Canadian Junior National Championships was Ute sophomore Ashley Patterson. She qualified for the finals in the 400m, taking 10th in the event. She nearly recorded a personal best with a time of 56.76.
