SALT LAKE CITY - Utah's Amber Walter and Kelsey Patterson swept the Mountain West Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week awards, respectively. The two Utes turned in strong performances in a big win at TCU last weekend.
Walter, a Kalispell, Mont., native, won four events in the Utes' conference win against the Horned Frogs on Saturday. She helped the 200 medley relay (1:46.44) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.69) to wins, while also being victorious in two individual events. She won in the 50 free in a 23.34 clocking, just .75 seconds off her MWC leading time, while also winning the 100 free in 52.16. Walter was also named conference swimmer of the week on December 6, this is her second time this season.
Patterson, from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, beat TCU's four-time MWC Diver of the Week Jennifer Ferguson in both the one-meter and three-meter dives in Saturday's conference contest. Patterson scored a 303.08 in the three-meter dive and a 282.30 in the one-meter, winning each event by more than 50 points. This is the first conference honor for Patterson this season.
The Ute women will be in action on Thursday, January 18, at Colorado State. On Saturday, January 20, the women will travel to New Mexico, to take on the Lobos. Utah is 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in MWC competition.
