THIS WEEK:
The Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams will resume conference competition as they travel to For Worth, Texas, to face TCU. The Utes will be in action on Saturday, January 13, at 11:00 a.m. The meet with the Horned Frogs will be the first dual meet in over two months for the team.
UTE NOTES:
The Utah women are sitting at 4-0 on the season with a 2-0 Mountain West Conference record. In their last meet the Utes beat San Diego State 133-105. Over the holiday break Utah competed at the Ohio State Invitational where it finished third and several Ute swimmers set school and Ohio State Invitational records. In their last meeting Utah beat TCU 125.5-117.5, in a meet where Utah jumped out to a big lead and TCU fought back to make it close in the end.
The Utah men sit at 3-4 overall and 0-1 in conference competition. The Utes finished fifth at the Ohio State Invitational in December. Utah earned one of its conference victories over the Horned Frogs in Salt Lake City last season, with a 129-114 win.
Utah finished its holiday training with the swimmers competing at the UCSD Relays, while the diving team traveled to the Georgia Diving Invitational. Both meets were non-scoring.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
TCU comes into the meet with a 4-2 (1-2 MWC) record on the men's side, while the women are 7-3 (2-3 MWC). The match-up on the men's side looks to be very even and is expected to be very close. TCU poses strengths in the backstroke, distance free and sprint events and the team that can win those events looks to have the upper hand for the victory. For the women, the Horned Frogs will be looking for revenge coming off a close loss last season. The women have a very solid diving team and also expect to be very competitive in the sprint events. TCU placed fourth in the conference championships a season ago.
QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH Michael Litzinger:
"We expect the best from TCU, the men's meet should be very competitive and they are a quality opponent. For the women, we are looking to come off our holiday training in style. It is always important to do our best against a conference opponent."
