LOGAN, Utah - The Utah women's volleyball team fell to Utah State, 3-1, in a non-conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 30.
Kathryn Haynie led Utah (10-12) with 15 kills on the night while Kate Robison had a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs, hitting a team-high .458. Whitney Webb recorded 12 kills while Lori Baird tallied eight kills and six blocks.
Utah won the first game 30-25 after leading by as many as eight points. Webb and Robison each had four kills in the first game while Baird tallied three kills and two blocks.
In game two, Utah State (15-10) pulled away early, 7-3, and continued to pull ahead to lead by nine, 23-14. The Aggies won the second game 30-23. Amanda Nielson led Utah State with seven kills in game two while Haynie had four kills for the Utes.
Game three featured 13 ties and five lead changes. With the score tied, 16-16, Utah State went on a 3-0 run to give them a lead they would hold on to for the remainder of the contest. With the Aggies leading by five, 25-20, Utah made a comeback by reeling off four-straight points with the help from a Karolina Bartkowiak kill to come within a point, 25-24, Utah State would pull away in the final points to win 30-27. Bartkowiak tallied five kills in game three for the Utes.
The Utes kept game four close, with the Aggies able to lead by no more than three points throughout the game. With Utah State up by one, 27-26, the Aggies tallied three of the final four points to take the 30-27 win.
Other standouts for Utah included Bartkowiak, who came away with six blocks and nine kills. Keisha Fisher and Stephanie Shardlow both had 29 assists and four digs. Connie Dangerfield tallied nine digs.
Nielson led Utah State with 25 kills. Monarisa Ale had 17 kills and five blocks. Danielle Taylor recorded nine kills and nine blocks. Chelsea Fowles had 61 assists and Christine Morrill tallied 16 digs.
Utah continues on the road on Friday, Nov. 2, against TCU. The Horned Frogs beat the Utes, 3-2 in Salt Lake City earlier this season.
