SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah head women's volleyball head coach Beth Launiere has announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent during the early signing period. Joining the Utes for the 2008 season are middle blocker Miranda Bradshaw (Elkridge, Utah/Payson HS), outside hitter Sarah Hibbert (Anchorage, Ala./South Anchorage HS) and setter Abby Simmons (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS).
"All three of these student-athletes have the qualities to be successful at the next level," Launiere said. "They are all quality individuals who bring athleticism, volleyball experience and leadership to our team. This class fills our needs by position."
Below is a look at each member of the 2008 recruiting class:
Miranda Bradshaw (MB, 6-3, Elkridge, Utah, Payson HS)
On Bradshaw: Competed four years for head coach Jodi Whicker Beck at Payson High School, earning three letters ... career-high is 24 kills ... a PrepVolleyball.com Top 200 Senior Ace ... competes at the club level for Club Utah.
Launiere on Bradshaw: "Miranda will bring size and athleticism to our team and will fit perfectly into our style of Utah Volleyball."
Sarah Hibbert (OH, 6-1, Anchorage, Alaska, South Anchorage HS)
On Hibbert: Won three state titles at South Anchorage under head coach Judy Knecht ... three-time all-state and all-region selection ... only player from Alaska to be on the all-state team and win a state title three years in a row ... MVP of team junior and senior seasons ... ranked No. 90 on PrepVolleyball.com's Senior Aces list ... competes at the club level for Midnight Sun ... also played softball at South Anchorage ... grandfather also attended Utah ... in National Honor Society ... will start at Utah in January, 2008.
Launiere on Hibbert: "Sarah is a tremendous athlete and has great skills all around. She is one of the best players to ever come from the state of Alaska. She knows how to win."
Abby Simmons (S, 6-0, Phoenix, Ariz., Desert Vista HS)
On Simmons: A first-team all-state selection with Desert Vista under head coach Molly West ... Central Region Player of the Year as a senior ... Arizona Republic All-Arizona team ... had 1,073 assists and 54 aces as a senior ... three-time all-region and two-time all city ... two-time team captain and team MVP ... one of PrepVolleyball.com's 150 Senior Aces ... plays at the club level for Arizona East Valley Juniors ... the fourth generation in her family to attend Utah.
Launiere on Simmons: "Abby has all of the qualities to be successful at setter. She has size, athleticism and has shown she is a leader on the floor."
