SALT LAKE CITY - Mat Iandolo, head coach for the University of Utah women's tennis team, signed on two new players: Lexi Provancha (La Jolla, Calif.) and Lisa Johnson (El Cajon, Calif.). The two new netters will join the Ute squad for the 2008-09 season.
"Particularly because this is my first recruiting class, I am excited about our two new players," says Iandolo. "They are two players with great potential and have a great opportunity in front of them. I think they will surprise people with how well they'll do during their collegiate career."
Provancha is currently a senior at La Jolla High School. Her team won the 2007 CIT Championships, equivalent to a state championship, and Provancha played into the singles quarterfinals. In dual match play, Provancha plays at the No. 1 or No. 2 spot.
"I'm stoked to go to the University of Utah," says Provancha. "I'm excited to compete as a collegiate athlete."
Johnson is a senior at Valhalla High School. She was named the 2007 Most Valuable Player on her high school squad. At the 2007 CIT Championships Johnson played into the round of 16.
"I'm really excited to join the team and hopefully I can help the team to win more matches," says Johnson. "I am good friends with Lexi, so it will be fun to be on the same team as her in college."
