LAS VEGAS, Nev. - On the final day of competition at the UNLV Invitational the Utah swimming and diving team capped off the three-day invite with Karly Roberts winning the 1650 free with a time of 17:19.28.
Overall the both the Utah men and women placed third at the invitational. The women finished with 746 points, while the men had 559.5. UNLV won the women's side and UC Santa Barbara won the men's competition.
Shannon McQueen started off the final day with a third place finish in the 200 back. Her time in the event was 2:04.36. Teammate Beth Gunderson placed seventh in the event as well with a time of 2:06.24. Freshman Natalie Edge continued to perform well placing second in the 100 free (51.17). Kelly McIntyre added a second-place finish in the 200 fly with a time of 2:05.57. In the 200 breast, Adrienne Coburn and Maiya Otsuka placed third and fourth, respectively.
The Utes 400 free relay team of Edge, Kristina Evans, Annie VanLeeuwen and McQueen finished third with a time of 3:28.41.
On the men's side Andrew Brown swam a time of 1:53.66 to place fourth in the 200 fly. Vlas Lezin had a fifth-place finish in the 200 back (1:51.65). John Baque finished fifth in the 200 breast with a time of 2:06.12.
The men's 400 free relay team of Garret Beaman, George Evans, Tanner Folster and Marco Ferraro added a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:03.16. Richard Mason finished off the evening with a sixth-place time of 16:08.96 in the 1650 free for Utah.
Utah will be off until January 12 when they will host TCU at the Ute Natatorium.
