The Tipoff
The University of Utah women's basketball team (9-3 overall) returns from a seven-day holiday reprieve to play at Long Beach State on Saturday, Dec. 29. Tipoff at the Walter Pyramid is set for 2 p.m. (PT). It's been a week since the Utes took to the hardwood, having beaten Weber State on Dec. 21, 71-45. The win extended Utah's winning streak out to four straight games, and it ties for the longest win streak of the year thus far. LBSU's last game was also on Dec. 21. It beat Washington State, 61-55. The win snapped a six-game skid as it improved the 49ers record to 2-8 on the year.
This game will be broadcast on KALL 700 Sports with Chris Tunis calling the action. Live stats, audio and video are available at www.UtahUtes.com.

A Brief Look at the Series
Even though this series dates back 30 years, these two teams have only crossed paths four times in their respective histories. Three of those meetings came before 1985. Saturday marks the fifth meeting in the series which is tied at 2-2. The most recent meeting was last year. LBSU came to Salt Lake City on Dec. 1, 2006, and Utah dealt it a 66-43 blow. Saturday's game marks Utah's second meeting with a Big West team this year. Utah opened the season against BWC member UC Irvine, bagging the 91-50 win. The Utes are 15-12 all-time against current members of the Big West.
