SALT LAKE CITY - Elizabeth Ferris got a win at No. 1 singles, but that was all the Utes could muster against 48th-ranked Oklahoma State in a 4-1 loss on Thursday afternoon at the Eccles Tennis Center.
The match was abbreviated to singles play only due to the Cowgirls' travel schedule.
Ferris, a junior from Anaheim, Calif., recorded a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Iryna Tkachenko at No. 1 singles. The Cowgirls won the other four singles matches that were completed.
Utah's Emily Kwok gave Yawna Allen a good battle at No. 2 singles. After dropping the first set 7-6, Kwok took the second 6-2. Kwok then gave a great effort in the third set before falling 7-5.
Karine Bourdages split the first two sets with OSU's Jennifer Poskitt 6-2, 4-6 and was tied at 3-3 in the third frame when the match was called.
The Utes return to action against Mountain West Conference rival Colorado State on Friday. March 30 in Fort Collins, Colo.
