Shapard hit an NCAA Regional Qualifying mark in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.68. Her time was good enough to win her the event and land her third place on the all-time Utah record list.
Other event winners were Mandie Rowell in the triple jump (37-3), Haley McAllister in the long jump (18-2.5), the 4x100 meter relay team (46.35), and the 4x400 meter relay team (3:48.46). The runners in the 4x100 meter relay were Jennifer Cutrer, Whitney Wellington, Haley McAllister, and Jazmin Dickey who set a new school record by .80 seconds. The 4x400m team consisted of Ashley Patterson, Whitney Wellington, Chelsey Kaplar, and Shapard.
UTE NOTES: The Utes have had two athletes hit NCAA Regional Qualifying marks so far this season. Amanda Feigt and Chelsea Shapard have qualified in the 400m hurdles with times of 60.60 (Feigt) and 59.68 (Shapard).
QUOTING HEAD COACH Kyle Kepler: "We're looking forward to competing against some great competition at UCLA, Mt SAC, and Utah State. We want to continue to carry the momentum we built last week at Weber State into these meets that will feature some tremendous athletes. Every chance we get to compete at a meet of this caliber is an opportunity to move our program forward. Our team is excited to compete against some of the best athletes in the country this weekend.
"Most of the team will compete at UCLA on Friday and Saturday. The distance runners will try to take advantage of the usually ideal weather and competitive conditions that exist at Mt. SAC on Friday afternoon and evening. The Mark Faldmo meet at Utah State will offer the remainder of our group an excellent opportunity to continue to learn and compete at this level."
NEXT WEEK: The Utes will host their lone home meet in Salt Lake City, on April 21st. The Utah Spring Twilight will begin at 2 p.m. with the hammer throw at Tally Stevens Track (800s. 1400e.)
