Utah Baseball Suffers 18-1 Loss to UVSC

OREM, Utah - The University of Utah baseball team ran into a red-hot pitcher Friday night at Utah Valley State. The Wolverines' Marcus Moore tossed a three-hit complete game, leading UVSC to an 18-1 victory.
As good as Moore was, the Wolverine hitters were just as strong. UVSC pounded out 18 hits, including four home runs.
Utah Valley (11-18) had an 8-0 lead by the time Utah (11-18) cracked the scoreboard for its first and only time. The Wolverines knocked Ute starter Lucas Trinnaman around for six rusn in 2 2/3 innings. Trinnaman didn't help his cause much, allowing three walks and uncorking three wild pitches.
Utah finally got on the board in the top of the sixth, when shortstop Mike Mitchell came around on a ground ball off the bat of Jay Brossman.
Utah Valley State scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to go on top 11-1. But the Wolverines really poured it on in the eighth, scoring seven runs. Utah Valley hit three home runs in the frame to account for the final tally.
Moore (2-2) struck out seven, walked one and allowed just one hit and one run, picking up the victory for the Wolverines. Trinnaman (0-5) suffered the loss for Utah. Derrick Thomas and Austin Heaps each had four RBIs for Utah Valley State.
The Utes and Wolverines are back in action with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Ute Field in Salt Lake City. First pitch for game one is slated for 1 p.m. Game two is will begin roughly 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first contest.
