SALT LAKE CITY - After coaching the University of Utah men's and women's swimming teams for the last seven seasons, head coach Michael Litzinger has announced that he accepted a coaching position with the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
"I would like to thank Dr. Hill and the University of Utah for the opportunity they have given me over the last seven years," said Litzinger. "But most of all, I'd like to thank all of the athletes that I've worked with during my time here. It was their commitment to excellence and their devotion that helped Utah become a championship-level program on both the men's and women's side.
"My family and I will always hold the University of Utah in highest regard and we will greatly miss Salt Lake City and its people."
As Ute head coach, Litzinger led the women's team to four conference titles and the men's squad to one. He was a two-time Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year and coached three All-Americans (Alison McInturff, Heidi Hausknecht and Sterling Richards). During his tenure, the women's team went 53-25 (.679) and the men recorded a 34-32 (.515) tally.
A nationwide search for Litzinger's replacement begins immediately.
