Two Track Athletes Make it to NCAA's

SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah track and field team is sending two of its standout athletes to compete at the NCAA Championships June 6-9. Both Amanda Feigt and Chelsea Shapard will represent the Crimson and White at the championships in Sacramento, Calif.
Feigt earned an automatic bid to the 400m hurdles, while Shapard earned an at-large invite to the same event.
Feigt will be competing in two events as her 5,328-point effort in the heptathlon at the Mountain West Conference Championships was good enough for her to earn an invite into that competition as well.
"This is the pinnacle of our season," said head coach Kyle Kepler. "We feel grateful to have two solid athletes competing at this meet against some of the best athletes in the country. We know that Amanda and Chelsea are going to go out there and give it their best effort.
"For Amanda, this is a great way to end her collegiate career. With Chelsea, even though she's dealing with an injury, this is still a huge learning experience. She's only a sophomore and this will only help her at future championship meets in her career."
The bids to the NCAA Championships were announced Tuesday afternoon and a complete list of competitors can be found at NCAASports.com. Sacramento State will be the host institution for the event.
Feigt punched her ticket to the big meet by finishing fifth in the 400m hurdles at the West Regional last weekend. She clocked the event in 58.67, chalking up a lifetime best by eight-tenths of a second. Feigt will also compete in the multi-event after winning the conference title in the heptathlon with a come-from-behind effort on the second day.
Shapard finished seventh (1:00.17) at the West Regional in the 400m hurdles, just missing out on an automatic invite. She receives an at-large, and enters the meet ranked 24th in the nation in the event. Shapard set the school record (58.47) when she won the league title in the 400m hurdles.
