OGDEN, Utah - The University of Utah track and field team wrapped its final preparations for the Mountain West Conference championships at the Weber Twilight this week, chalking up three first-place finishes and four PR performances at the evening event.
"We had a nice meet," said head coach Kyle Kepler. "The women competed hard and used this meet as one final chance to tie up any loose ends in their events before we go to the conference meet. We'll start to back things down and get rested for the conference championships next week."
Highlighting the performances were the efforts of Jennifer Cutrer (100m hurdles), Haley McAllister (long jump) and Ashley Patterson (triple jump). All three chalked up first-place efforts on Wednesday night. Curtrer clocked a 14.08 in her event while McAllister and Patterson lept 19-1/2 and 38-91/2 in their respective events. Patterson not only recorded a first-place effort but also turned in a personal-best performance in the triple jump.
The Utes saw a bevy of second-place showings as well. Patterson was runner-up in the 200m (24.75) while Amanda Feigt (100m hurdles, 14.09), Mandie Rowell (triple jump, 38-43/4), Chastity Toilolo (shot put, 42-10) and Sarah Cardinal (discus, 142-8) also finished in second place, respectively. Of the second-place efforts, Feigt, Rowell and Toilolo recorded new personal-bests.
Jazmin Dickey and Liza Whitehead both turned in third-place efforts in the 100m dash. They tied, clocking the event in 12.24. Also taking third at the Weber Twilight were Rowell in the pole vault (11-6) and Cardinal in the shot put (41-3).
The Utes return to action next week at the Mountain West Conference championships in San Diego.
