LOGAN, Utah - The Utah women's track and field team came away with five event wins at the Wilson Motor Invitational, hosted by Utah State, on Friday, Jan. 18.
"We performed at a much higher level than we did last week and showed improvement in a ton of events," head coach Kyle Kepler said. "We came out with a lot of confidence this week. Overall, I'm pleased. We focused on the right things and followed our plan of attack. We did really well."
Haley McAllister, whose first-place leap of 18-0.25 in the long jump ranked 10th all-time at Utah and was a personal best. Jazmin Dickey finished second in the event (16-4.5).
Chasity Toilolo won the shot put with a throw of 43- 7.75, then finished fifth in the weight throw (49-4.25).
Mandi Witherspoon won the high jump, clearing 5-4.25, while Sarah McFee's leap of 35-6.0 was first in the triple jump.
Rounding out the winners was Chelsea DiGrazia in the 3000 meters (10:30.05). Utah athletes finished one through four in the meet, with Lauren Endersen (10:35.76), Kellie Anderson racing unattached (10:37.80) and Lauren Lewis (10:59.80) finishing two through four, respectively.
"I'm thrilled with the way we ran the 3000," Kepler said. "They really got us going in the meet. They came out and ran the race aggressively, going out and getting in the lead and taking over the race. I was very pleased with that."
Josefin Berg was placed second in the weight throw. Her toss of 54-9.25 ranks ninth all-time at Utah. She also had a strong finish in the shot put, placing fifth with a throw of 38-4.0.
"Josefin was in an awesome competition in the weight throw," Kepler said. "She was beat on the last throw by a few inches."
Others who had strong finishes included Shayla Houlihan's second-place finish in the mile (5:15.90) and Jessica Suddaby's third-place run of 1:01.97 in the 400-meter dash. Sarah Dowland placed third in the shot put with a throw of 40-9.0.
Several Utes remain in action on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Snake River Invitational, hosted by Idaho State.
"We need to keep it going and keep working on getting better," Kepler said. "February will be here before we know it and we need to continue to do all the right things to get where we want to be."
