Utah 79, Green Bay 60 Postgame Quotes
Utah head coach Jim Boylen
"I'm proud of my guys. It has been a tough two days of practice. It really bothered my guys that we lost that game [to Southwest Baptist] and I thought they responded. What we have to do is keep our edge. That's a very good team that we beat [Green Bay]. They are a veteran team with good guard play but we held them to 33-percent on our floor. I'm very excited about that. That's the way we have to play. I thought we had a lot of open looks from the three that we didn't make tonight, but our defense kept us in there. Then we made our spurt and kept playing defense. That's how we have to play."
"I thought our depth took over along with our conditioning, but more than that, we played with grit. Tonight I thought we had more grit and that helped us. A big point of emphasis for us is rebounding. This is two games in a row where we won the rebound game by double digits."
"Our starting guards didn't play very well during the last game and I think they responded tonight. I'm proud of them. Carlon Brown was who Carlon Brown should be, Luka Drca is an intelligent and tough kid and I think they were both who they should be. Lawrence Borha has to give us a spark and drive the ball. I thought all three of those guys did what we asked them to do and responded, which is what you're looking for as a coach."
Sophomore guard Carlon Brown:
"Having more energy was one of our main goals. Coach [Boylen] always preaches rebounds, running, and effort. Tonight I think we focused on effort which led to rebounds and running, so it was really good."
Junior forward Kim Tillie:
"We tried to be more aggressive at the basket. I think we've been focusing on being aggressive at the rim and drawing the defense into the paint, and kicking the ball out for open shots, which we did."
"We kept them out of the paint, so they took a lot of shots from the outside. We were expecting a lot of rebounds. In the second half, we kept running and the altitude worked in our favor because we're used to it, and I think they got a little tired."
Green Bay Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk
"Tonight there were two teams that came out and played extremely hard. The first half was nip and tuck, back and forth and we stayed with [Utah]. In the second half, I think we lost our composure on offense a little bit. We rushed some shots, we took some questionable shots, and that led to them to go on a little bit of a run."
"I give Utah credit, they are a very well-coached, veteran team that has a chance to be very good this year."
