Women's Tennis Defend Home Courts with 7-0 Sweeps

SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team had a victorious day at Eccles Tennis Center on Saturday against Montana and Weber State. The No. 49 Utes swept the competition in both matches to improve their record to 9-4.

The Utes were unstoppable on Saturday as the defended their home courts in both singles and doubles play. Elizabeth Ferris, currently ranked No. 52, only played one singles match on Saturday for Utah. The Ute faced Liz Walker from Montana at the top spot for a 6-2, 6-0 victory. At the No. 3 spot, Emily Kwok faced Rebecca Bran. Kwok knocked off a 6-1, 6-3 win over Bran.

Leigh Walsh stepped in at the No. 4 spot for Utah on Saturday against Montana. The Ute took on Martyna Nowak for a 7-6, 6-2 win. Walsh sat out in singles play against Weber State. Andrea Maughan didn't mess around at the No. 6 slot against Jessica Souza. The Ute ran circles around her opponent, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

The match against Weber State got underway at 5:00 p.m. at Eccles Tennis Center. Evgenia Kryuchkova stepped in at the No. 1 spot to replace Ferris for the match. The Ute faced Gabi Venditto from the Wildcats' squad. Kryuchkova outplayed Venditto and posted a 6-0, 6-2 win.

Erin Monson stepped in at the No. 2 slot against Weber State. Inalise Pienaar from the Wildcats attempted to challenge the Ute, but to no avail. Monson dug in, out-serving and outsmarting Pienaar on the court. The Ute took the win 6-3, 6-2.

At the No. 4 spot, Karine Bourdages took on Greyce Farias. The Ute got straight to the point, dominating the court. Bourdages swept the match 6-0, 6-0. Playing at the No. 6 spot on Saturday was Dee-Dee Nelson, a native to Bountiful, Utah. The Ute faced Alyssia Pyne from the Wildcats to post a powerful 6-1, 6-2 win.
