WALNUT, Calif. - Kellie Anderson and Josefin Berg competed at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., Wednesday, April 17, and Thursday, April 18.
Berg was fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 180'1".
"She was fifth going into the finals and moved up with her last throw," said throws coach Tapio Kuusela. "The competition was pretty tight, second through fifth were all close. I think this was a really good competition to compete in because in the bigger meets we may see some things that we don't see in the smaller meets or in practice. They are important to go to even if we don't always win. I think we accomplished something today. I think that when the conference and regional meet comes up we can step back and say that we were glad we were at the Mt. Sac meet because it has helped me and will help her understand what really goes on. It's very possible she will throw a season best this weekend as a result of what we learned today."
Anderson ran a lifetime best in the 10,000 meters, placing 23rd with a time of 37:15.19.
"Kellie was on pace to break 37 minutes for a good portion of the race," head coach Kyle Kepler said. "She got into a bad rhythm for a few laps in the middle, which happens in that race. But she fought her way out of it had a good last couple of laps to finish well. We'll go into practice and try to tie up some of those loose ends. It's hard to feel anything but successful when you run a personal best."
The rest of the Utes spring into action on Saturday, April 19, at the Mark Faldmo Invitational, hosted by Utah State.
