Utah Women's Tennis Completes Day Three of Regionals

LAS VEGAS, NEV.- The University of Utah women's tennis team finished the third day of play at the ITA Mountain Region Championships, Friday, at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas. Day four resumes doubles play at 9 a.m. PT with singles starting at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 17.

Sophomore Anastasia Putilina, the No. 6-seed*, faced off against the No. 1-seed Pichittra Thongdach in the main draw singles quarterfinals. The Ute was unable to overcome the Boise State player, falling 6-4, 6-1. She faces a yet to be determined opponent in the consolation draw quarterfinals at a yet to be announced time.

17th-seeded Evgenia Kryuchkova downed Christin Molina of Air Force, 6-4, 6-1, in the third round of the consolation draw. The junior then defeated Utah State's Hailey Swenson, 6-4, 6-1, in the round 4 qualifier. She faces fellow 17th-seed Jana Albers of UNLV in round 4.

Sophomore Missy Harris, who had a break from singles action Friday, will go up against Nevada's Lais Ogata in the fourth round of the consolation draw.

In the consolation draw's third round senior Erin Monson topped New Mexico State's Ginet Pinero, 6-0, 6-3. The No. 17-seed then fell to Ogata, 6-3, 6-4, in the round 4 qualifier.

Freshman Paige Miles downed Veronika Wajokowska of Colorado State, 6-2, 6-0, in round 3 of the consolation draw, but was defeated in the fourth round qualifiers, 6-3, 6-2, by Colorado's ninth-seeded Monica Milewski.

In the main draw doubles round of 16 Monson and fellow senior Andrea Maughan knocked out a, 8-6, win over Wyoming's Rebecca Berger and Alexandra Kovacs. In the quarterfinals the eighth-seeded duo was unable to overcome BSU's second-seeded team of Thongdach and Lauren Megale, falling 8-3. They face a yet to be determined opponent in the consolation draw quarterfinals at a yet to be announced time.

Putilina and Miles defeated Montana's Rebecca Bran and Heather Davidson, 8-5, in the consolation draw's round 3 qualifier. They face NMSU's seventh-seeded team of Aleksa Costa and Sophia Marks in the third round.

Kryuchkova and Harris fell to UM's Amanda Bran and Maddy Soule, 8-3, in the third round qualifier of the consolation draw.

*In the singles main draw players were seeded normally No. 1 to No. 8 with eight players seeded No. 9 and 10 seeded No. 17. Main draw doubles teams were seeded normally No. 1 to No. 8 with five teams seeded at No. 9.
