SALT LAKE CITY - No. 1 UC Irvine held the Utah baseball team to just four hits as the Utes fell to the Anteaters, 10-1 on Friday evening at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
UC Irvine took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning before the Utes put up a run in the bottom of the inning. C.J. Cron led off with a double to right field before scoring when Austin Jones hit a double to right field to cut the lead to 3-1.
The Anteaters also scored runs in the fourth, seventh and ninth innings to pull ahead for the victory, led by three hits and two RBI from Francis Larson and Casey Stevenson. Larson and Dillon Bell each hit home runs in the game.
Devin Walker had two of the Utes' four hits on the evening. Three of the four hits were doubles.
Ute starter Andrew Wilding went six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits with a season-high seven strikeouts in the loss. Bennett Askew pitched into the ninth and Zach Clausing also saw action in the ninth.
The Anteater's Christian Bergman pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts.
Utah and UC Irvine play the third and final game of the series on Saturday at noon, closing out an 11 game home stand for the Utes.
