PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif.- Junior Anastasia Putilina of the University of Utah women's tennis team netted a win over a top-50 ranked opponent Friday en route to the semifinal round of the singles consolation bracket at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.
"I am very proud of how Anastasia has competed over the last couple of days," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "The biggest difference this year is she is doing a lot better job of competing and staying mentally strong throughout the course of her matches."
In the round of 16, Putilina, ranked No. 67, upset Princeton's 49th-ranked Hilary Bartlett 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. She then defeated Rosalia Alda of Tennessee 6-3, 7-6(7), in the quarterfinals to advance.
Putilina faces 15th-ranked Aerial Ellis of Texas in the semifinals Saturday, Oct 9, at 11:45 a.m. PT.
