The University of Utah volleyball team ended its 2010 season 17-14 overall and finished third in its final season in the Mountain West Conference with an 11-5 record against league foes.
Utes Upset No. 14 Colorado State: Utah upset No. 14 Colorado State, 3-1 (15-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21), Nov. 24 at Moby Arena. This was the Utes' first victory over a nationally-ranked opponent since defeating Colorado State on Nov. 22, 2008 at Crimson Court. The Utes had only seven service errors in the four-set match, compared to eight for the Rams.
All-MWC Utes: Four Utah student-athletes - Karolina Bartkowiak (Aurora, Ill.), Keisha Fisher (Ririe, Idaho), Erin Redd (Spanish Fork, Utah) and Morgan Odale (Star, Idaho) - were named to the 2010 all-Mountain West Conference Volleyball Team while Odale was selected as the Freshman of the Year, the league office announced on Nov. 30.
Dani Can Kill and Block: Junior middle blocker Danielle Killpack (Idaho Falls, Idaho) led Utah to a four-set upset Wednesday at No. 14 Colorado State and a sweep at Wyoming on Friday. She posted team-high averages of 3.86 kills and 1.86 blocks per set. Killpack also led the Utes with a .659 hitting percentage, posting a flawless performance on the attack over the weekend with 27 kills on 41 swings without a single attack error.
`Barto' Ninth on All-Time Kills List: Bartkowiak finished her Utah career with 1,115 kills and stands ninth in school history. Bartkowiak had 17 kills (2.43/set) and recorded 12 digs (1.71/set) as well as nine blocks (1.29/set) in matches at No. 14 Colorado State and Wyoming last week.
Fisher Is Utah's All-Time Dig Leader: In only three years as a full-time starter at the libero position, Fisher set the school-record with 1,608 career digs. Fisher had 498 digs this season, which stands first in school history.
Odale Among MWC Leaders: Odale is in the MWC's top 10 in six different statistical categories. Odale is listed second in the conference-only stats with 0.35 service aces per set, sixth with 3.86 points per set and is seventh with 3.21 kills per set against league opponents. Odale was fourth in the overall statistics with 3.90 points per set, seventh in kills (3.28/set) and 10th in service aces (0.25/set).
Redd Efficiency: Redd, a freshman middle blocker, after finishing second in the MWC with a .354 hitting percentage and was second place in the conference-only stats with a .368 clip in league matches.
