SALT LAKE CITY - Utah senior opposite hitter Karolina Bartkowiak earned Honorable Mention All-West Region recognition for the second consecutive season, it was announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
"We are happy for Karolina and this award," Utah head coach Beth Launiere said. "She played a big role on our team and deserves to be recognized as one of the best players in the region."
Bartkowiak, an Aurora, Ill., native, earned all-MWC honors in each of the last three seasons. This season, she ranked ninth in the MWC with 2.96 kills per set and a .288 hitting percentage. In conference play, she finished eighth with 1.11 blocks per set and a .312 hitting percentage and was listed ninth with 3.75 points per set.
Bartkowiak finished her career ninth in school history with 1,115 career kills and became the 12th member of Utah's 1,000-kill club during a season-high 19 kill-performance against BYU on Oct. 29. `Barto' also tied her season high with seven blocks against the Cougars, while her other seven-block performance came at Air Force on Nov. 11.
She was named the MWC Player of the Week twice this season on Sept. 7 and Nov.1 and five times over her career. Bartkowiak recorded double-doubles in 14 of 31 matches this season and 26 times over her career.
