Oregon-Oregon State Match Notes
The University of Utah volleyball team continues its four-match Pac-12 Conference road trip this weekend. The Utes take on No. 16 Oregon in Eugene Friday at 7 p.m. PT, then will face Oregon State in Corvallis on Saturday at 7 p.m. PT.
Utah owns an 8-14 record overall and sports a 3-10 record in Pac-12 play this season after dropping a pair of three-set decisions last weekend at No. 3 USC and No. 6 UCLA.
Utes for the Block: Utah is eighth in the NCAA and fourth in the Pac-12's team statistics with 2.95 blocks per set in all matches this season and is also fourth in the conference-only statistics with 2.72 blocks per set. The Utes have outblocked their opponents in 16 of 22 matches this year and are 8-8 in those contests. Friday at No. 3 USC, Utah outblocked the third-ranked Women of Troy 8.5 to 4.0.
Dani Puts Up the Roof: Senior middle blocker Danielle Killpack (Idaho Falls, Idaho) came up with a match-high seven blocks Friday against third-ranked USC. Killpack ranks 46th in the nation and seventh in the Pac-12 overall statistics with 1.22 blocks per set this season. Against league foes, she is coming up with 1.20 blocks per set, which stands eighth among all Pac-12 players.
More from Morgan: Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Odale (Star, Idaho) posted a team-high 2.83 kills per set to go along with 1.83 digs and 0.33 blocks per set last weekend against the Women of Troy and the Bruins. Odale posted a team-high eight kills to go with three digs and two blocks Friday at No. 3 USC. She led the Ute attack Saturday at No. 6 UCLA by registering nine kills and also added eight digs against the Bruins.
Block of Redd: Sophomore middle blocker Erin Redd (Spanish Fork, Utah) is 17th in the country and fourth in the Pac-12's overall statistics with 1.40 blocks per set this season and fifth in the conference-only stats with 1.24 blocks per set in league matches. Redd has led or tied for the Utah team lead in blocks during 11 matches this year. Redd had a career-high 10 blocks against Eastern Michigan on Sept. 9, which is tied for the sixth-highest single-match total in the Pac-12 this season.
Dig in for Sim: Sophomore libero Nikki Sim (Salt Lake City, Utah) is ninth in the Pac-12 with 3.97 digs per set this year. Sim has led or tied for the team lead in digs 14 times this year. Sim turned in a team-high 10 digs Saturday at No. 3 UCLA. She has reached double-figures in digs in 17 of 22 matches in 2011. Sim posted a career-high 27 digs against Eastern Michigan on Sept. 9, which stands as the third-most in a five-set contest in the Pac-12 this season.
